With just 10 weeks to go until the league champions of 2012 are crowned the top of the BeerandBoobs Fantasy League is as packed as the proverbial sardine can.
Five teams now share top spot with 45 points after a bout of close games this weekend meaning predicting the winner of this year’s league title is harder than counting the hairs on the head of the Angry Dragons manager, which is actually not that hard.
Dyslexic Untied have yet again managed to lose a game and, riding the luck of the devil, retain the league leadership position on points difference as the teams below them also managed to slip up.
Their manager cannot expect this luck to last as at least one of the five are surely due a run of results which will take them to the title. Here we take a brief look at their chances.
Dyslexic Untied. Often the bridesmaid , never the bride is a phrase which could have been written for Untied as every year since the inception of the league they have been up there challenging for honours. To date, however their roll of honour is still empty and they are desperate to put that right. If ever a team deserved glory it is Untied but history has not been kind and most expect them to fade yet again.
Steaua Needarest. Most considered their run to the title and the cup last season as a one off, a run of freakish luck, an anomaly. Mollitt himself admitted that he couldn’t believe the run his side put together at the end of last season but despite the distraction of a new job and a wedding to plan Mollitt has got his side into the finishing straight, firing on all cylinders yet again. Back to back titles for Steaua?
AC Corona. Yes you read that right AC CORONA!! Who’d have thought that we would ever put “AC” and the words “league title” in the same sentence without including “will never win the” as well? Yet here they are. They were within a coup[le of points of taking top spot outright this week until manager Craig Hallam cocked up his transfers thinking the wildcard was still available and cost himself a dozen points. AC have a very good chance if their manager can start to concentrate a little more and avoid such costly errors.
Spiros and the ArgoDwarfs. The ever present Dwarfs are managed by the games hardest thinking manager who will analyse every single aspect of the week’s forthcoming game before making any decisions on team selection. Not for Kev is the 11.15am Saturday revelation that begins in your head as “SHIT…….my team!!!” before booting the laptop and making hasty changes before the deadline. Every side is a considered and balanced 11 which makes the Dwarfs dangerous opponents at any stage of the season but when there is a trophy at stake, watch out.
Fortuna BrusselSprout. Who? The only rookie team in the BeerandBoobs league this season to effectively stand any chance of taking top spot. Many started well and faded as the season went on but Fortuna (nee Torpedo Belgrano) started poorly and after a disparaging remark from a fellow manager embarked on a purple patch of results which has brought them to the edge of glory in their first season. They must still be considered underdogs due to their points difference but at this stage cannot be ruled out of becoming champions.
Only time will tell which of these current front runners will be carry away the prize money at the end of the season. However there is also a clutch of teams who with the a fair wind behind them could effectively sail straight past these five and pip them to it. Unlikely it maybe but within 6 points of top spot we see Sixteen Samurai, Kirali Girls, Angry Dragons, Coops Troops and United by Fear all of whom cannot be fully discounted at this stage.
Who’s your money on?
